Diamonds In The Rough

One of my favorite past times is treasure hunting. That takes lots of forms. Some days I hunt at thrift stores, some days I dig around the property, and on really adventurous days I literally search the desert looking for gems. One of my favorite facts is that diamonds are created under extreme pressure. Ordinary coal becomes dazzling by nature simply applying tons of pressure over a long period of time. Such a great analogy for life.

Pressure and uncomfortable places force changes in us. If we cope well with the pressure over time we turn into rare finds that could only be created by such extreme and challenging circumstances. Humans are diamonds. Don’t crumble under life’s pressures and demands, remind yourself that periods of discomfort help us change. We can decide if these changes will break us or make us. I hope you choose to be a diamond.

Often people want to know how…how do you do what you do? One nugget that has helped me along the way was reminding myself to be a diamond. To accept life’s pressures and challenges, to know that change is always coming, and to stay focused. Extraordinary things rarely come from ordinary places, they almost always go through extreme pressure and life altering situations. Of course no one enjoys discomfort, but if you can learn to focus on the good ahead you may just be surprised at what you become :) Keep a fake gem in your pocket and when life feels overwhelming reach for it and remind yourself that better days are ahead.
